About The Position

Roane Medical Center is a state-of-the-art facility committed to providing quality patient care through medical, surgical, emergency, critical care, diagnostic imaging, and rehabilitation services. The Medical Assistant position coordinates and performs both clerical and clinical activities and functions of the Roane Sleep Center department.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of healthcare experience
  • CPR required
  • Any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains patient charts to include insurance, registration, correspondence, laboratory and radiology reports, tracks and requests patient records; documents as necessary in the charts.
  • Schedules and coordinates appointments, scans and tests; confirms appointments; notifies appropriate departments, in writing, of daily and weekly patient schedules.
  • Receives all telephone calls coming into the Roane Sleep Center; assists patients, physicians and others with patient-related matters; relays diagnostic test results to patients per physician's discretion; conducts follow-up phone calls to patients with problems and "no-shows".
  • Assists physician with procedures such as mask fitting.
  • Performs BP, TPR, and weight on each patient; responsible for alerting physician of abnormalities.
  • Performs medical history on each patient prior to being seen by physician.
  • Prepares monthly statistical data to be reported to Administrator of Roane Sleep Center.
  • Maintains medical supplies in each exam room and office supplies in clerical area.
  • Monitors patient insurance for hospital admission pre-certification requirements; assist with reimbursement issues as needed.
  • Completes forms required for continuity of care, such as patient insurance, home health and DME.
  • Precertifies insurance coverage for procedures and treatments ordered by the physician.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Completes required education assignments annually.
  • Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
