About The Position

The Medical Assistant will perform both administrative and clinical duties within the Physicians Clinic. Administrative tasks include managing patient information in the EMR, handling insurance forms, scheduling appointments, and processing payments. Clinical duties involve taking patient histories, recording vital signs, performing tests such as EKGs and pregnancy tests, and collecting specimens. The role emphasizes a customer-centric approach, ensuring patients are treated with friendliness and respect. The Medical Assistant will also liaise with various healthcare resources to ensure accurate patient care and will assist with general office functions, including managing medical records and assisting front desk staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Proficiency in measuring and recording vital signs/weights required

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of Medical Assistant program preferred
  • Certified Nursing Assistant with Current Certification
  • State Certification/Registration preferred
  • BLS preferred
  • Medical office experience preferred
  • Good knowledge of general office practice and business etiquette
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public
  • Demonstrates a positive outlook and a respectful manner towards clients, staff, co-workers, and visitors

Responsibilities

  • Answering telephones
  • Greeting patients
  • Updating and uploading patients' information into the current EMR
  • Completing prior authorization insurance forms for medication and other ordered services
  • Handling correspondence
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Arranging for referrals and laboratory services
  • Collecting patient payments
  • Obtaining patient medical history
  • Obtaining and recording vital signs
  • Performing pregnancy tests
  • Performing EKG’s
  • Collecting urine specimens
  • Ensuring a customer-centric environment by treating clients with friendliness and respect
  • Obtaining vital signs and communicating information to Prescribers
  • Gathering and documenting patient medical histories, including medications, allergies, consents, completed questionnaires, and information requested by providers from patients or other healthcare services
  • Performing UDS, HCG testing, EKGs, in addition to other tasks assigned and requested by medical providers
  • Liaising with lab services, insurance companies, pharmacies, and other healthcare resources to ensure accurate information for ongoing care
  • Ensuring medical records are scanned into the EMR before appointments, as necessary
  • Forwarding documentation, such as consents and referrals, to medical records for uploading into the EMR or scanning and uploading directly when needed
  • Assisting front desk staff with answering phones
  • Checking clients in and out
  • Scheduling and rescheduling client appointments
  • Completing assessments with clients who consent for state and federal programs
  • Completing insurance verifications and correcting errors on the monthly billing report and state reporting report
  • Staying up to date with annual training and related requirements
  • Participating in skill enhancement activities
  • Providing coverage to all outpatient clinics as needed
  • Fostering collaborative relationships among leadership, management teams, and programs
  • Performing other duties as assigned
