About The Position

The Medical Assistant will perform a variety of clinical, documentation, and clerical support duties to ensure the smooth operation of the primary care clinic and provide excellent patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of work experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association.
  • Knowledge of general medical terminology, hospital policies and procedures, and Joint Commission and HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain accurate patient medical records.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills MS Office applications (Word, Excel and Power Point).
  • Analytical skills to determine job priorities, multi-task and work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Measures and records vital signs, identifies abnormal values and reports findings to nursing staff or medical provider.
  • Assists with patient arrival, schedules appointments, and facilitates patient exit.
  • Recognizes and responds to emergencies according to policy.
  • Provides for patient comfort needs, considering age and special needs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of clinic equipment, including preparation, safety testing, cleaning, and disinfecting.
  • Maintains linens, supplies, and equipment, and stocks exam rooms.
  • Collects, prepares, and secures laboratory specimens.
  • Documents appropriately in the patient medical record.
  • Navigates the Electronic Medical Record to obtain results, outside records, update demographics, and schedule appointments.
  • Prepares safety reports as directed.
  • Maintains privacy of patient health information.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, courtesy, and respect in interactions.
  • Consults with and informs the clinic manager of clinic activities and issues.
  • Manages patient and co-worker complaints calmly and reports them to the clinic manager.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality.
  • Implements standard and transmission-based precautions.
  • Ensures patient safety during clinic visits.
  • Reports safety hazards or violations to the Clinic Manager.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement Process, QAPI projects, and EOC Rounds.
  • Gathers clinical documentation for provider review.
  • Obtains medical records from outside facilities.
  • Scans outside correspondence into the electronic medical record.
  • Answers and routes telephone calls promptly.
