About The Position

Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a Physician. This role involves a variety of patient care and administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the clinical setting.

Requirements

  • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; OR six months to one-year related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience to be determined by Practice Manager.
  • Certification is required.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients and equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to assist in moving patients weighing up to 300 pounds.
  • Regular exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Adherence to strict safety and hygiene protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews patients, measures vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records information in patients' charts.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations.
  • Drapes patients and positions instruments and equipment.
  • Hands instruments and materials to the doctor as directed.
  • Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
  • Inventories medical supplies and materials, and requests supplies from the Practice Manager.
  • Operates electrocardiograph (EKG) and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests or schedules patients for tests.
  • Gives injections or treatments and performs routine laboratory tests.
  • Schedules appointments, keeps medical records (including x-rays), performs secretarial tasks, and completes insurance forms.
  • Enters data into the computer to maintain office and patient records.
  • Performs blood draws competently and expediently with minimal patient discomfort.
  • Assists patients with mobility and transport needs within the clinical setting, including helping patients in and out of wheelchairs or exam tables, escorting or transporting patients, and ensuring their comfort and safety.
  • Monitors patients during transport for signs of distress.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of transport equipment.
  • Provides emotional support to patients when necessary.
