About The Position

A Medical Assistant provides dual clinical and administrative support to improve patient flow in accordance with the Charter Oak Health Center guidelines, responding to high volumes of patients in a short time spans, acting as the primary point of contact under the supervision of a nurse or the provider. Key duties include, but not limited to: Ability to obtain and record vital signs and medical history Administering injections (after obtaining of vaccination certification) Performing point of care testing Updating Electronic Health Records with all information required. Being able to work independently and/or with minimum supervision. Provides safe and appropriate patient care and administrative duties as needed and in scope of practice, delegated by a Registered Nurse, LPN, and/or Medical Provider in order to assist patients in achieving established outcomes by: collecting data points (i.e vital signs, EKG’s, blood glucose monitoring, pregnancy test, COVID/Flu tests, retina view test, point of care testing, etc.) and to communicate the outcomes to the provider/nurse. Performs direct patient observation; reports changes in patient condition and/or immediate concerns raised to RN, LPN, or Medical Provider and assists in reinforcing patient education. Perform various other duties required by the supervisor (either a nurse or a provider). Performs selected basic therapeutic measures under the direction of an RN or LPN after completing competency to assist in achieving established patient care outcomes (i.e. ear lavage, etc) Maintains a safe, clean and orderly environment for patients and visitors by performing the selected duties as assigned. Demonstrate a willingness to serve all customers at all times; maintain an awareness of patient needs and utilize the initiative to respond to those needs within skill level; utilizes tact, discretion, and compassion in dealing with other members of the team to ensure quality patient care. Demonstrates willingness for self-improvement by collaborating with leadership to identify learning needs (reflective of the organization and of the individual) and seek instruction from appropriate resources. Contributes to improvement by participating in meetings, training, in-service education, and performance improvement activities as directed. Ensures cost-effective utilization of resources within own control. Room patients, prepare patients for examination and assist providers upon request, collect payment, clean rooms, address home care orders, etc. Possess the ability to recognize emergent situation and react swiftly in emergency situations, be an active participant of Rapid Response. Assist the providers as required in ensuring all patient information ECW documentation is complete and accurate. Demonstrate knowledge of the basic concepts of customer service technique related to age-specific population. Comply with all Federal, state, local, Joint Commission Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), DPH, Subcontractor safety and operational regulations, directives and standards. Maintain confidentiality of all information and supporting patients' privacy, rights, and safety (HIPPA). Provide coverage for other clinical areas (as requested) and be crossed trained to work in any departments, including off sites. Performs miscellaneous duties as required by management. Maintain appropriate attendance and adhere to dress code. Compliance Responsibilities: In collaboration with the Clinical Lead Nurse and/or VP of Nursing, assists with ensuring quality and regulatory compliance within the nursing department and organizationally as appropriate. Complies with applicable legal requirements, standards, policies and procedures including but not limited those within the Compliance Process, Code of Conduct and HIPAA and the Joint Commission. Participates in required orientation and training programs, departmental meetings as required. Reports concerns and suspected incidences of non-compliance in accordance with COHC Compliance Re porting Process. Cooperates with monitoring and audit functions and investigations. Participates, as requested, in process improvement.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Medical Assistant certification required
  • RMA certification required
  • Current CPR certification is required (Adult and Pediatric)

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in CHC and/or related health field is preferred
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred
  • Proficient in English (preferred)
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills along with proper telephone etiquette
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to effectively translate medical terminology
  • Able to demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software, computer skills and other software programs
  • Able to efficiently function in fast-paced work environment
