About The Position

Hematology and Oncology practice in Sherman Oaks is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to perform both front and back office duties in a professional, organized and ethical manner and work closely with the physician in the clinical setting. Requirements

  • 3 years and above of medical specialty practice experience in BOTH front and back office duties
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Certified Medical Assistant
  • CPR Certified
  • Strong Computer Knowledge (i.e. EMR, Word, Excel)

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual is preferred
  • Previous Hematology and Oncology experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting patients with a friendly, compassionate and professional demeanor
  • Utilizing a desktop or laptop computer for data entry and daily office functions
  • Scheduling appointments (i.e. new patient, follow-up, chemotherapy, outside providers)
  • Answering phones/Scanning/Faxing/Emailing
  • Entering patient demographic and insurance information accurately
  • Verifying patient insurance and eligibility
  • Checking patients in at time of arrival
  • Collecting co-payments/deductibles/account balances
  • Triage/Interview patients
  • Vital Signs, injections, venipunctures, gather specimens and send to lab for processing timely
  • Document chief complaint/medical history/update medication list
  • Request/Gather all necessary data for each patient medical record (i.e. hospital/referring physician office/radiology and or lab records)
  • Maintain a clean/organized work area including front office/triage area/examination/treatment rooms
  • Prepare treatment rooms before each examination
  • Properly drape patients if necessary
  • Sterilize instruments and maintain all medical equipment
  • Assist the physician with procedures and treatments
  • Review physician orders/monitor prescriptions/request authorizations
  • Stock office/medical supplies and request supply orders timely based on inventory needs
  • Must be a team player, passionate about patient care, self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Communicate efficiently with patients, physicians and other healthcare staff
  • Other duties as directed by the physician and/or office manager
  • Obtain insurance authorizations for all required exams and document approvals.
  • Obtain information on the patient's eligibility status with the insurance company to ensure proper coverage and payment for services.
  • Obtain patients' hospitalization information and enter necessary data into computer system.
