About The Position

This is a full-time, 10-hour rotating shift position for a Medical Assistant at LV Trop. Family Med Cl. The role is non-exempt and non-union. The Medical Assistant will escort patients to exam rooms, obtain and record vital signs and medication lists, monitor patient flow, assist physicians with minor clinical procedures, perform EKGs, and prepare patient charts with pertinent medical information. They will also schedule diagnostic tests, perform various office and clerical duties, and ensure patient privacy, safety, and confidentiality. Maintaining a safe environment in accordance with standards, policies, and safety regulations, and ensuring compliance with infection control policies are also key responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent
  • Specialized/technical training: Graduate from an accredited school of Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) (Required within LA City only)
  • Certification - Job Relevant: Current Medical Laboratory Personnel License – NV.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience
  • Experience in acute care setting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Familiarity with word processing, GECB, COR, Cerner, ProSolv, and scheduling software is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Determines patient care needs and directs patients accordingly.
  • Ensures patient charts are prepared prior to appointment including x-rays and pertinent lab work, makes arrangements to obtain any special equipment needed. Sets up exam rooms, assists physician with exams as needed, monitors patient flow.
  • Prepares patients for examinations. Obtains and records vital signs.
  • Ensures health care delivery areas are fully stocked, organized, cleaned, and disinfected.
  • Maintains files and records, oversees equipment and office supply inventory. Photocopies, collates, faxes,, mails. Reads and prioritizes incoming mail. Handles or routes as appropriate.
  • Ensures that physician orders for medications and treatments are implemented by the appropriate staff.
  • Provides coverage/relief for co-workers. Communicates directly with co-workers the status of all patients when providing coverage.
  • Assists the physician with exams and procedures.
  • Records patient information in chart//EHR according to Joint Commission standards. Maintains a professional demeanor.
  • Obtains blood sample specimens by venipuncture or capillary methods in response to requests for testing by clinicians, with appropriate consideration for the age of the patient.
  • Receives and screens specimens with regard to acceptability as defined by established guidelines.
  • Processes, distributes or packages all specimens received.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
