This role supports abortion care through direct clinical triage, patient education, and follow-up, ensuring timely and empathetic support to those navigating abortion services. Union: This role is represented by SEIU, Local 105 and is governed by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Must complete PPRM Ultrasound training within nine months of hire (except NM.)
  • Must obtain and maintain BLS certification within six weeks of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred (CCMA, CMA, NCMA, or RMA) or must obtain Medical Assistant certification within 15 months of hire.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform vital signs and collect patient information such as patient allergies, medication list, etc.
  • Collect patient specimens such as blood and urine for appropriate tests.
  • Perform basic point of care lab tests such as pregnancy tests, including select delegated CLIA waived tests and related controls.
  • Accurately document collected information and test results in the medical record.
  • Perform venipuncture and injections with training and competency validation.
  • Perform basic dating ultrasound following training and competency validation.
  • Dispense medications and supplies.
  • Sanitize exam rooms and medical equipment including use of autoclave and ultrasound-cleaning equipment.
  • Assist the provider in clinical procedures such as abortion, IUD placement, cervical cancer screening, etc.
  • Act as a chaperone during patient exams or procedures, as needed.
  • Escort patients throughout the health center and upon discharge.
  • Act as a mandatory reporter per state and regulatory requirements.
  • Support patient follow-up which may include contacting patients by telephone, or electronic communications.
  • Assist with monitoring and ordering supplies to maintain accurate inventory of medications and materials required to ensure Health Center operations.
  • Assist with routine health center upkeep and cleaning, including stocking exam rooms with necessary supplies.
  • Contribute to research such as introducing opportunities for studies as patients check in, while rooming patients, etc.
  • Execute side tasks including but not limited to Birth Control by Mail, records release, special fund tracking, etc.
