About The Position

CICONIX is seeking a Medical Assistant with one (1) year of experience to support the Naval Medical Center in Virginia Beach, VA. This full-time opportunity involves working with patients of all ages (Pediatrics to Geriatrics) and requires proactive collaboration with team members, other departments, and directorates to achieve optimal patient care within the HOME PORT model. The role includes actively participating in team huddles, promoting effective communication, preparing for visits by reviewing provider schedules, screening patients, preparing electronic health records (EHR) and other appropriate forms, utilizing automated programs and IT tools, performing data entry for population health metrics, assisting in the orientation of new personnel, maintaining a safe and orderly department environment, performing administrative functions such as scheduling appointments and preparing correspondence, maintaining productivity levels, participating in peer review and performance improvement activities, practicing aseptic techniques and complying with infection control guidelines, functioning with an awareness of safety procedures, performing efficiently in emergency patient situations, applying awareness of legal issues in patient care, participating in the Family Advocacy Program, exercising awareness and sensitivity to patient/significant others' rights, maintaining accountability for professional practice, participating in continuing education, attending all required annual training (including disaster training, infection control, Sexual Harassment, Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire and Safety, CBRNE), participating in the command’s Performance Improvement Program, providing in-service training to clinic staff, attending various meetings, performing timely and accurate documentation, operating automated systems like MHS Genesis and Clinical Information System (CIS), participating in PI and Risk Management functions, maintaining a DOD email account and responding to communications, exercising appropriate clinical delegation, and maintaining documentation of all treatment provided.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • One (1) year of experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 3 years
  • Active and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Be a graduate from a medical assistant training program accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
  • The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) of the American Medical Technologists.
  • Formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces.
  • Formal program approved by the MTF.
  • Current and Active Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Possess a minimum of 1 year experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 3 years.
  • U.S. Citizenship and a successful background investigation are required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • Willingness to comply with the government vaccination requirements, reflected of CDC guidelines.
  • Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Flexible and able to work with various personalities.

Responsibilities

  • Working with all ages (Pediatrics to Geriatrics)
  • Proactively collaborate and integrate with members of the team, other departments, and directorates to achieve optimal care for the patients in the HOME PORT model.
  • Actively participate in Team huddles.
  • Promote effective communication with staff, patients, families and between other departments.
  • Proactively prepare for visits by reviewing upcoming provider schedules to avoid unnecessary visits with their provider and ensuring TEAM workflow.
  • Screen patients based on standard questionnaires per clinic protocol.
  • Prepare patient electronic health record (EHR) and other appropriate forms prior to patient’s appointment (i.e., physical). Prepare paperwork during EHR failure.
  • Utilize automated programs and information technology tools to facilitate the patient experience.
  • Perform data entry for population health metrics and health promotion. It is expected the HCW will participate in updating patient data by utilizing communication and management tools (i.e., MHS Genesis, Care Point, and Secure Messaging).
  • Assist in the orientation of new personnel as assigned.
  • Collaborate with staff and support activities to maintain a safe and orderly department environment.
  • Perform administrative functions, to include scheduling appointments and preparing correspondence to patients, as assigned.
  • Maintain a level of productivity comparable with that of other individuals performing similar services.
  • Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.
  • Practice aseptic techniques as necessary. Comply with infection control guidelines to include the proper handling, storage, and disposal of infectious wastes, and the use of universal precautions to prevent the spread of infection.
  • Function with an awareness and application of safety procedures.
  • Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events. Anticipate potential problems/emergencies and make appropriate interventions. Notify supervisor, director, or other designated person regarding problems that the HCW is unable to manage.
  • Apply an awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and strive to manage situations in a reduced risk manner.
  • Participate in the implementation of the Family Advocacy Program as directed. Participation shall include, but not be limited to, appropriate medical examination, documentation, and reporting.
  • Exercise awareness and sensitivity to patient/significant others' rights, as identified within the MTF.
  • Maintain an awareness of responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.
  • Participate in continuing education to meet own professional growth.
  • Attend and/or comply with all annual training classes required by the MTF, to include but not limited to online annual training provided by the MTF: disaster training, infection control, Sexual Harassment, Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire and Safety, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE), and all other required training.
  • Actively participate in the command’s Performance Improvement Program. Participate in meetings to review and evaluate the care provided to patients, identify opportunities to improve the care delivered, and recommend corrective action when problems exist.
  • Participate in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members. Provide training and/or clinical direction as applicable to supporting government employe­es (e.g., hospital corpsmen, students, etc.).
  • Attend and participate in various meetings as directed.
  • Perform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient care.
  • Operate and manipulate automated systems such as MHS Genesis and Clinical Information System (CIS), participate in clinical staff Performance Improvement (PI) and Risk Management (RM) functions, as prescribed by the MTF Director. Maintain DOD email account as directed. The HCW shall be responsive to all email and voicemail communications.
  • Exercise appropriate clinical delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and clinic activities.
  • Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with clinic directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required. All records and reports must be legible. Abbreviations must be only those listed in local instructions.
