About The Position

UW Medical Center-Montlake - Diabetes Institute at South Lake Union has an outstanding opportunity for a Medical Assistant - Certified (MA-C). The Diabetes Institute is the first of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, integrating advanced care for patients with all types of diabetes, including Type 1, Type 2 and more unusual forms of diabetes that may develop in conjunction with other medical conditions and/or treatments. We also provide specialty care for patients with diabetes, including cardiology, weight loss, nephrology and podiatry. Requirements

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board OR equivalent
  • Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation within 6-months of hire. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider CPR card
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, take vital signs, and reconcile records
  • Perform injections
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms
  • Submit medication prior authorizations
  • Recognize symptoms of common medical illnesses and accurately report to provider
  • Act as a liaison between patient, patient’s family and providers
  • Assist provider with procedures and medical exams
  • Perform point of care testing and report abnormal laboratory values
  • Assist in transporting patients as required
