About The Position

Assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of healthcare providers. This role involves a variety of clinical tasks, patient interaction, and administrative duties to ensure smooth clinic operations.

Requirements

  • Clinical Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant active certificate; OR equivalent from two-year college or technical school; OR six months to one-year related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience to be determined by leadership.
  • Knowledge of Word Processing software; Internet software, EMR systems (Athena preferred), and Database software.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients and equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to assist in moving patients weighing up to 300 pounds.
  • Regular exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Adherence to strict safety and hygiene protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Athena EMR system experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews patients, accurately takes vital signs such as manual BP, pulse rate, temperature, 02 level, weight and height, and properly records information into EMR.
  • Prepares exam rooms for examination of patients as well as stocking them.
  • Hands instruments and materials to provider as directed for certain procedures.
  • Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
  • Performs EKG's, urinalysis, strep test, flu test, covid test, mono test, pregnancy test, checks patients A1C, etc.
  • Gives injections per providers orders (intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous).
  • Handles portal messages from patients, refill medications, order additional labs or imaging as needed, complete prior authorizations, complete precertification for imaging, etc.
  • Must have effective communication skills and instruct patients and/or their family as directed by the provider.
  • Call patients to discuss results as directed by the provider while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Keys data into EMR to maintain office and patient records.
  • May be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time as needed or as directed by supervision (i.e., assist with patient check-in).
  • Perform blood draws competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible.
  • Assisting patients with mobility and transport needs within the clinical setting. Duties include helping patients in and out of wheelchairs or exam tables, escorting or transporting patients to various areas, and ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the process.
  • Monitor patients during transport for signs of distress, maintain the cleanliness of transport equipment, and provide emotional support when necessary.
