About The Position

Retina Associates of Kentucky is seeking a Medical Assistant (Ophthalmic Technician) to join their team. This role involves assisting ophthalmologists in providing excellent patient care, performing initial testing, and preparing patients for exams. The company offers training, so no prior medical or eyecare experience is required. The position is full-time and located in Ashland, KY, with regular travel to Paintsville, KY, and occasional travel to Lexington, KY, with mileage reimbursement provided.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate patient flow
  • Assist the doctor in preliminary testing
  • Verify medical and vision insurances
  • Effectively communicate with patients, doctors, and managers
  • Answer inquiries through phone, email, and in-person requests
  • Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone)
  • Display a professional attitude, greet patients promptly with a smile, and thank them when they leave
  • Practice urgency at all times with patient’s time, as well as doctor’s time and schedule
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures including HIPAA
  • Verify patient information by interviewing patient
  • Recording medical history, current medications and confirming purpose of visit
  • Records all data in the patient's Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Checks condition of patient's eyes by observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity, and extraocular movements
  • Perform dilation, refraction, pressures, and a variety of diagnostic tests including visual fields, OCT, GDX, IOL master, auto refractor and topography
  • Perform general office duties and cleaning as assigned by manager
