The Medical Assistant will perform a combination of duties under the direction of a provider, including screening patients for medical histories, recording vital signs and EKGs, and documenting X-rays and sonograms in patient charts. The role involves preparing patients for examinations, assisting providers as needed, scheduling follow-up appointments, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, and performing phlebotomy. Responsibilities also include ensuring proper disposal of contaminated supplies, preparing instruments for sterilization, stocking examination rooms, ordering supplies, and maintaining communication with health agencies for immunization and communicable disease reporting to ensure patient information is updated. The position requires moving equipment, assisting in patient examinations and treatments, operating equipment, preparing patient medical records (charts) or EMRs with intake sheets, gathering patient information and complaints, performing various tests, logging laboratory and radiology results, and completing various forms for medical, physical, and disability purposes. The Medical Assistant will also track inventory for supplies and vaccines, interview patients, ensure charts are prepared with relevant information for providers, assist in maintaining patient flow, escorting patients and specimens, setting up examination rooms, distributing educational materials, assisting with prescription refills, and recalling or rescheduling patients. Additional duties include tracking refrigerator/freezer temperatures and completing appropriate forms, and performing other required duties.
