About The Position

The Center for Orthopedic Research and Education (CORE) is seeking a PRN Medical Assistant. This role facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient care, collects and shares pertinent information with the provider, and receives and acts on directives from the provider. The Medical Assistant is responsible for preparing the patient for a visit with the provider, which includes rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, removing dressings, procedure set-up, injection prep, and accurate data entry into EMR. They are also responsible for completing tasks associated with Company initiatives such as PROs, Quality Payment Programs, etc. The role also involves maintaining exam room standards, restocking rooms, cleaning rooms and tables, and monitoring biohazard and sharps containers. The Medical Assistant will assist the provider in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms. They will retrieve and respond to voicemails within 24 business hours and document actions in EMR. Additionally, they prepare electronic patient charts for clinic visits, verify outstanding testing results, confirm patient appropriateness for the provider, note imaging, DME, or casting needs, and scan clinical documents into EMR. Printing clinic schedules, ensuring patient education, and managing provider EMR desktops are also key responsibilities. The role includes acting as a PTO Buddy, creating and promoting a positive patient experience, maintaining a HIPAA compliant environment, and maintaining a clean workspace.

Requirements

• 1-2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management is preferred.
• In lieu of experience must have the following training and/or experience: Graduated from a formal training program during the last 12-18 months, and have the CMA certificate; OR, Is grandfathered in as defined by State regulation.
• The employee must pass the MA competency exam within the first six months of employment.
• Active Medical Assistant certification such as Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) with proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT), or per State regulations
• Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software.
• Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for meaningful use.
• BLS certification require
• High school diploma/GED, and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of experience in an outpatient physical therapy clinic.
• Experience with orthopedics

Responsibilities

• Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient care

• Rooms should be restocked at the end of each clinic day
• Rooms and tables should be cleaned as needed during the clinic and at the end of each day
• Monitor biohazard and sharps containers and replace them as needed
• Assist the provider in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms (i.e. work release, FMLA, etc.)
• Retrieves and responds to voicemails within 24 business hours and documents actions in EMR
• Prepares electronic patient charts for clinic visits before the date of service
• Verify any outstanding testing results are in EMR, confirm the appropriateness of the patient to the provider (body part and/or insurance), note imaging, DME, or casting needed prior to provider visit on the date of service
• Scans clinical documents into EMR
• Print clinic schedules on the morning of the date of service
• Ensures the patient receives education as indicated by the provider
• Manages EMR desktops of assigned providers in a timely manner
• Act as PTO Buddy per clinic plan
• Create and promote a positive patient experience
• Maintain HIPAA compliant environment
• Maintain clean workspace
