The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physicians, PA, or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care, and procedures. This role involves preparing and maintaining examination rooms, ensuring efficient patient flow, and preparing pertinent information for patient visits. The MA will communicate and provide care consistent with the age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of the patient. Responsibilities include answering the telephone, scheduling appointments, stocking examination rooms, and assisting with supply orders. The MA will also reconcile encounters, communicate issues to supervisors, and perform duties within the scope of practice. Key clinical duties include obtaining vital signs, updating medication lists, documenting allergies, and using the EHR and Practice Management System (PMS) for tasks, orders, and referrals. Adherence to safety precautions for medication administration and waste disposal is essential. The role requires maintaining proficiency with department-specific equipment and facilitating transitions of care. Flexibility with work schedules and performing unassigned duties are also expected. Scribing services may be required.
