About The Position

A Medical Assistant at Franciscan Health is responsible for performing a variety of clinical duties. With Indiana Heart Physicians, you'll provide professional standard care procedures, assist providers and staff in coordinating patient care, and function as a liaison between patients, coworkers, and providers. Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Completion of a Medical Assisting program; In lieu of program, 5 years of medical assistant experience is required
  • Basic Life Support Program (BLS) certification - American Heart Association- required within 90 days of hire
  • One of the following certifications within 6 months of hire: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Allied Health or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Registry of Medical Assistants or Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Performance Specialists (NPS)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms and treatment areas, including cleaning, sanitizing, and stocking supplies to ensure patient readiness
  • Support efficient patient flow by rooming patients, obtaining medical histories, vital signs, medication reconciliation, EKGs, and point-of-care testing as directed
  • Accurately document patient care, communications, and clinical activities in EPIC EMR and other required systems
  • Assist providers with procedures, patient communication, referrals, prior authorizations, appointment scheduling, and coordination of testing and follow-up care
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with patients, providers, and staff while delivering high-quality care within the Medical Assistant scope of practice
