About The Position

Medical Assistants perform a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to help provide care to patients, support providers, and keep office operations running smoothly. This role involves ensuring sufficient inventories of medical and office supplies, processing the ordering of clinical supplies, and maintaining logs as mandated by state and federal regulatory guidelines. The Medical Assistant will also administer injections, EKGs, spirometry, perform phlebotomy, and render therapeutic treatments as instructed by the physician. They will determine patient eligibility using programs like Medicaid EVS, identify when a patient needs a referral or preauthorization, and handle office calls and patient greetings professionally. Accurate data input into the electronic health record is crucial, accessing patient information only as needed for job duties. The role includes obtaining and documenting patient vital signs, interviewing and triaging patients, preparing them for examinations, and assisting providers and staff. Demonstrating I.C.A.R.E. behaviors to improve the patient experience is also a key aspect of this position. Other projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of clerical/billing experience in a medical office setting.
  • Experience operating multi-line phone systems, fax machines, photocopiers, PCs, credit card machines, glucometers, EKG machines and other medical equipment as required by the medical practice.
  • Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR certification is required.

Nice To Haves

  • CMA, RMA or AAMA (through an approved/accredited organization) preferred.
  • If serving as a bilingual/multilingual interpreter, certification in Medical Interpretation is required to perform the duties of a qualified interpreter.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately register and schedule patients, print documents to include the providers daily schedule.
  • Ensure that sufficient inventories of medical and office supplies are stocked and maintained in the office and exam rooms.
  • Process the ordering of clinical supplies in accordance with practice standards.
  • Complete lab requests, referral and health forms and maintain logs as mandated by state and federal regulatory guidelines, policies and procedures of AAHCE.
  • Administer injections, EKGs, spirometry, perform phlebotomy, and render therapeutic treatments (practice specific) as instructed by the physician.
  • Determine patient eligibility using programs such as Medicaid EVS; consistently identify when a patient is in need of a referral and/or preauthorization.
  • Answer and screen office calls, greet patients in a professional and timely manner; project proper telephone etiquette; understand when it is acceptable to release patients protected health information.
  • Perform accurate, complete, and timely data input within the bounds of record access and in compliance with the processes and procedures governing the electronic health record. Access patient record information only as it directly pertains to the performance of work duties.
  • Obtain patient vital signs and properly document them in the patients medical record.
  • Interview, triage and prepare patients to facilitate smooth flow, assist providers in medical examinations, and provide other general assistance to the provider and staff as necessary.
  • Demonstrate the I.C.A.R.E. behaviors to improve the patient’s experience.
  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned.
