About The Position

Novant Health and GoHealth Urgent Care have partnered to deliver high‑quality urgent care services across Charlotte, Winston-Salem, and Asheville, NC. We focus on creating an effortless patient experience, a welcoming culture of care, and seamless integration with our health system partners. The Medical Assistant supports urgent care providers with clinical and administrative tasks, including patient intake, vitals, testing, procedures, room preparation, and EMR documentation. This role delivers a high‑quality, customer‑focused experience in a fast‑paced care setting.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire (AHA or ARC)
  • One of the following certifications is required (for candidates with less than 3 years of MA experience): CCMA – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA), CMA – Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA or CHP), RMA – Registered Medical Assistant (AMT, AAH, or ARMA), NCMA – National Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT), NRCMA – Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP)
  • Experience-Based Pathway (no MA certification at hire): A minimum of 3 years of Medical Assistant experience, AND At least 1 of those years must be in a Hospital, Emergency Room, or Urgent Care setting
  • Individuals hired without an approved MA certification must obtain one within 6 months of their start date to remain eligible for continued employment.
  • Alternative Credentials Accepted at Time of Hire: Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program, LPN, or RN, EMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians), Paramedic (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians), CNA – Certified Nursing Assistant

  • Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred

Responsibilities

  • Register patients, verify insurance, and collect co-pays
  • Schedule appointments and coordinate specialist referrals
  • Respond to patient inquiries and provide care status updates
  • Communicate patient flow and assist with patient preparation
  • Record medical history and obtain vital signs
  • Perform point-of-care testing (flu, strep, ECG)
  • Perform phlebotomy and administer injections
  • Prepare, clean, and restock exam rooms
  • Update EMR and scan documents
  • Answer phones and manage administrative tasks
  • Conduct patient follow-up and maintain reception area
  • Complete opening and closing procedures, including cash-out
  • Conduct daily equipment checks and submit repair tickets
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
