About The Position

The Medical Assistant position at Banner Health's Johnstown Family Practice Clinic is a full-time role responsible for assisting clinicians and nursing staff in providing medical care. This position plays a critical role in implementing and evaluating direct patient care, utilizing specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to ensure an excellent patient experience. Banner Medical Group is seeking dedicated professionals to join their team in delivering excellent patient care within their nonprofit mission. The clinic is located at 222 Center Dr, Johnstown, CO 80534.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification is required.
  • Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for Meaningful use.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Active Medical Assistant certification such as: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) with proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT).
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion.
  • Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, and BUMG, BUMCT, or BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
  • An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments.
  • Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software.
  • Additional related education and/or experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for exam and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms, and other necessary measurements and documenting chief complaint and pain scores.
  • Reports any changes in patient condition to the clinician.
  • Assists providers with exams and minor in-office procedures, including taking vital signs, performing phlebotomies, ear irrigations, and EKGs.
  • Acts as a chaperone as needed and uses universal blood and body fluid precautions.
  • Prioritizes patient flow through the clinical process.
  • Coordinates and manages patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling for clinic, hospital, and ancillary medical treatments and tests.
  • Communicates test results to patients and acts as a resource to clinicians.
  • May administer medications in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Provides clerical support, including completing medical records with labs, authorizations, X-rays, hospital records, and previous care information.
  • Provides complete and accurate information necessary for billing related to the patient encounter.
  • Maintains a clean and functional environment, including cleaning and disinfection of equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas.
  • Disinfects equipment and instruments using appropriate solutions and follows sterilization procedures.
  • Follows manufacturer's recommendations and OSHA guidelines for handling hazardous substances.
  • Performs basic maintenance of equipment and coordinates needed maintenance.
  • Orders supplies as directed and stocks patient care areas.
  • Manages medication ordering and tasks related to all medications, including expired items and recalls.
  • Develops and maintains effective communication with external and internal customers.
  • Exemplifies service orientation and the team concept.
  • Completes all necessary on-boarding/orientation activities, including simulation training.
  • Works under the direct supervision of providers and interacts with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts.
  • Prioritizes data from multiple sources to support the response to patient and family needs.
