This position involves escorting patients to exam rooms, assessing patients per clinic protocols, obtaining and documenting vital signs and chief complaints, updating medication lists, and verifying allergies. The Medical Assistant will also update patient medical and social history, prepare patients for examination, and assist as necessary. They will ensure ordered test results are available for practitioner review, send letters of intent for prescribed orders, and maintain patient records. The role includes obtaining consent for procedures, collecting and preparing lab specimens, assisting providers in procedures, utilizing aseptic technique, cleaning and sterilizing instruments, and maintaining current knowledge of medications and their administration. The Medical Assistant will follow the five rights of medication administration, document administered medications and tests accurately, and formulate teaching plans based on identified learning needs. They will also schedule patients for further testing, track follow-up labs and wellness checks, maintain knowledge of clinic rules and regulations, phone in prescription refills, and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Additionally, the role involves ensuring exam rooms and patient areas are safe, managing patient flow, triaging acutely ill or injured patients, explaining delays to patients, recording phone conversations, maintaining knowledge of lab collection policies, performing quality controls, monitoring oxygen tanks and AEDs, performing API QC, checking for outdates on supplies and medications, inventorying medications, monitoring refrigerator temperatures, and participating in professional development.
