About The Position

Optim Orthopedics is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant for Dr. Jones in Bluffton, SC. The schedule will be set at 25 hours a week, with 50% of the time spent with Dr. Jones and 50% floating to other areas. This role assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician, interviews patients, measures vital signs, records information on patient charts, and prepares treatment rooms. Travel is required.

  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR)
  • 0-2 years in a related field

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient intake in clinic setting, including manual BP, pulse, respirations, height, weight, medication reconciliation, pain assessment, collection of conservative treatment history, diagnoses, medical history, family medical history, surgical history, and uploading diagnostic imaging studies from disc.
  • Assist physicians with injections, including preparation following sterile procedure.
  • Assist physicians with the application and removal of splints and casts.
  • Assist physicians with wound care, including undressing and redressing surgical wound sites, staple and suture removal, and minor in-clinic procedures.
  • Perform extensive pre-visit planning for clinic visits.
  • Utilize the electronic medical record system for patient charting, including entering patient demographics, medications, vitals, surgical history, family history, allergies, reviewing and reconciling medications electronically, entering and processing electronic orders for imaging, diagnostic studies, procedures, surgeries, entering and processing RXs electronically, creating and closing the loop on outgoing referral orders, entering MIPS clinical patient data, reviewing and processing incoming clinical documents, and utilizing a patient portal for communication and document sharing.
  • Complete patient forms, including FMLA, STD, Workers’ compensation status, assistive devices, and DME.
  • Perform scheduling duties for clinic visits, procedures, and surgeries.
  • Perform precertification procedures for in-clinic procedures.
  • Handle phone calls, patient complaints, and medications.
  • Upload, label, and route hospital operation/surgical notes and dictation, and communicate with the billing team effectively.
  • Prepare surgery documents, including completion of the history and physical and consent forms.
  • Sanitize all patient care areas between patients and at the end of clinics.
  • Inventory and stock patient exam rooms.
  • Schedule depositions and physician meetings when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
