The Medical Assistant provides patient care in the health center setting and assists the provider (s) and care teams in the management and coordination of patient care, with an emphasis on prevention and health maintenance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant training/certification preferred OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Current CPR or CPR/AED certification.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing and demonstrate a high level of listening skills.
  • Excellent customer service experience including active listening, problem solving, and the ability to remain calm in emotional or stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of patient care, addiction treatment and mental health disorders.
  • Knowledge of Community resources including Medicare, Medi-Cal, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and the county’s General Assistance Program.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the provision of services for the underserved and sensitivity working with a variety of people from low-income populations, with diverse educational, lifestyle, ethnic, and cultural origins; disabled, homeless, substance users, HIV (AIDS) infected, and/or physiologically impaired.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships.
  • Maintain detailed records.
  • Computer (PC) literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook email and database software.
  • Commitment to HIPAA and ability to abide by standards of professional ethics and maintain confidentiality.
  • Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to, standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self-monitoring, masking and social distancing.
  • Assist and support the Center/Department/Program to meet standards of High Reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform medical assistant duties, preparing rooms, rooming patients, record medical histories, vital signs and performing venipuncture and immunizations.
  • Assist the medical team including, and not limited to the Health Care Team, physicians, family nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, Health Educators and Integrated Care Coordinators.
  • Monitor Patient Centered Health Home goals.
  • Encourage patient’s wellbeing through health promotion.
  • Refer patients to primary healthcare team, as appropriate.
  • Keep accurate records for reporting to various funding and inspecting agencies.
  • Maintain immunization files for the county registry.
  • Travel when necessary to support operational needs.
  • Work one weekend per month as needed to support operational needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the medical assistant's scope of practice.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
