About The Position

The Per Diem Medical Assistant I provides, on an as-needed basis, clinical office support to physicians and surgeons. This individual performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Completion of Training Certificate from an approved Medical Assistant certificate course
  • BCLS certification Required (Issuing Authority: AHA)

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred
  • At least one year of Medical Assistant practical experience is preferred
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant certificate program from an approved school

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care responsibilities such as venipuncture, EKGs, checking schedules, organizing patient flow, assisting patients with mobility and dressing, collecting and processing specimens, and preparing patients for exams.
  • Assists physicians with procedures, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and families, answers calls, and provides information.
  • Handles administrative duties including sending/receiving medical records, obtaining reports and referral information, completing forms, and managing charts.
  • Utilizes electronic medical record (EMR) system or manual methods for administrative tasks.
  • Enters orders into EMR or prepares prescription refill requests for physician approval.
  • Manages inventory, orders, and restocks medical supplies.
  • Prepares examination rooms and instruments, adhering to sterilization techniques.
  • Maintains logging systems for refrigeration, point of care testing, sterilization, crash carts, etc.
  • Checks and disposes of expired medications and supplies according to policy.
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment, complying with legal regulations and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Assists in maintaining medical charts, including filing reports and test results.
  • May schedule surgeries/procedures, prepare charts, pre-admissions, and consent forms.
  • May perform proficient phlebotomy duties.
  • May perform appointment scheduling, registration, and update patient demographic and insurance information.
  • May maintain, adjust, and confirm patient office schedules.
  • May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
