About The Position

The Thompson Peak Primary Care Clinic is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide general front and back office support. This role involves escorting patients, maintaining exam rooms, handling phone calls, scheduling, and managing patient information. The Medical Assistant will work under the direction of a Provider, performing various duties related to patient examination and treatment, and will be part of a team focused on improving the patient experience and access to care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Completion of a MA training program Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification Required
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPC) - Certificate State
  • Have a current Fingerprint Clearance card, or within seven (7) working days after employment shall apply and be eligible for a Fingerprint Clearance Card (Pediatric Behavioral Health Sites ONLY) Required
  • Completion of an approved training program OR completion of an unapproved training program and successfully passes the medical assistant examination administered by a certifying organization accredited by either the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute as described by the Arizona Administrative Code (Chapter 16 – Arizona Medical Board - R4-16-401 and R4-16-101) OR completes a United States Armed Forces medical services training program Required

Responsibilities

  • Escorts patients to exam rooms.
  • Maintains clean, neat, and well-stocked exam rooms.
  • Provides quality phone service by scheduling patients or referring callers to the appropriate party.
  • Answers phone messages from patients promptly.
  • Maintains accurate patient information and files charts/paperwork correctly.
  • Maintains medical records.
  • Performs a variety of duties in connection with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a Provider.
  • Performs a variety of clerical support duties including receptionist, telephone, scheduling, message management, and data input.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
  • Obtains a brief history, documents chief complaint, and takes vital signs (weight, temperature).
  • Preps the patient for exam and assists the physician/clinician during exams and special procedures.
  • May travel to off-site locations to perform diagnostic testing and assist in physical exam components, TB testing, injections, and phlebotomy.
  • May administer and record injections and TB testing under the supervision and order of the physician.
  • Performs venipuncture and obtains specimens.
  • Performs CLIA waived lab tests.
  • Performs office procedures including, but not limited to, PFT, UDS, EBT, EKG, and fit testing, within the scope of practice as directed by provider.
  • Receives telephone calls from patients, pharmacy, and others; documents and relays information to the provider for action.
  • Phones pharmacy with approved medication orders/refills.
  • Performs a variety of front office duties as needed, including reception, telephone, chart maintenance, insurance forms, and scheduling.
  • Organizes and communicates with insurance companies for authorizations for therapies, testing, and specialist referrals.
  • Provides appropriate referrals to case management for employees.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
