This is an evergreen opportunity for a Medical Assistant at Novant Health–GoHealth Urgent Care, an ongoing talent pool for future openings. The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a vital role in supporting providers and delivering excellent patient care in the urgent care setting. This role combines clinical and front-desk responsibilities to ensure efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, and a positive patient experience from check-in to discharge. Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum of 1 year of Medical Assistant experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required at time of hire, must be obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA))
• For candidates with less than three (3) years of Medical Assistant experience, one of the following certifications is required: CCMA – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA), CMA – Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA or CHP), RMA – Registered Medical Assistant (AMT, AAH, or ARMA), NCMA – National Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT), NRCMA – Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP)
• Alternatively, 3+ years of Medical Assistant experience and 1+ year of experience in a Hospital, Emergency Department, or Urgent Care setting (if hired without an approved MA certification, must obtain one within 6 months of start date)
• Alternative Credentials accepted at time of hire: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing (LPN or RN), EMT or Paramedic (NREMT), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
• CPOE (Computerized Provider Order Entry) certification (must be obtained within two (2) weeks of start date)
• Flexibility to work varying shifts between 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM, including weekends and holidays, as required
• Proficiency in clinical Medical Assistant duties
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems quickly
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Commitment to treating all patients and colleagues with fairness, respect, and cultural sensitivity

Responsibilities

• Register patients and collect required documentation, including insurance verification and eligibility
• Process co-pays and assist with appointment scheduling
• Coordinate referrals to specialists as directed by providers
• Prepare patients for examination by confirming visit details, collecting medical history, and documenting information in the electronic medical record
• Measure and record vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, temperature, pulse, height, weight)
• Perform point-of-care testing (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, EKG, pregnancy testing) and communicate results to providers
• Draw and process blood specimens for laboratory analysis, as applicable
• Prepare, clean, and stock exam rooms; ensure appropriate inventory of clinical supplies
• Maintain accurate and complete medical records, including scanning and chart management
• Answer phones, manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, and maintain a welcoming reception area
• Conduct patient follow-up courtesy calls as directed
• Perform opening and closing duties, including cash handling, end-of-day reconciliation, and securing the facility
• Complete equipment checks, daily controls, calibration, quality assurance logs, and submit repair requests as needed
• Follow all Novant Health–GoHealth policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
• Perform other duties as assigned
