About The Position

Friend Health is seeking a dedicated and patient-centered Medical Assistant to assist providers and nursing staff in the examination, treatment, and care of patients in an outpatient clinic setting. This role is responsible for performing both clinical and administrative duties, ensuring the highest quality of patient care while maintaining compliance with safety, confidentiality, and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (Required).
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification (Required).
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience in an outpatient or ambulatory care setting.
  • Proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
  • Strong data entry, administrative, and organizational skills.
  • Annual TB testing is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist providers, RNs, and LPNs in examinations, procedures, and direct patient care.
  • Perform venipuncture, EKGs, audiometry tests, retina screenings, and waived laboratory tests (e.g., urine dipstick, pregnancy tests, hemoglobin checks).
  • Collect, label, and log laboratory specimens while maintaining proper handling procedures.
  • Administer medications and immunizations as directed by a provider (excluding IV medications).
  • Conduct health screenings and assessments (e.g., Ages & Stages Questionnaire, SBIRT, depression screening).
  • Obtain and record vital signs, ensuring timely communication of abnormal findings to the provider.
  • Prepare and maintain clean and stocked examination rooms before and after patient visits.
  • Assist with instrument sterilization, medical supply inventory, and equipment maintenance.
  • Facilitate patient transportation by assisting patients in wheelchairs, stretchers, and exam tables when necessary.
  • Utilize Electronic Medical Records (EMR) to document patient visits, vitals, screenings, and care instructions accurately.
  • Prepare and retrieve patient records, referrals, laboratory results, and consultation reports before provider visits.
  • Process and track referrals, ensuring timely patient follow-up.
  • Assist with provider desktop management, including scanning, faxing, and responding to messages.
  • Participate in daily huddles, care team meetings, and patient care conferences to support team-based care.
  • Monitor and report abnormal refrigerator temperatures for vaccine and specimen storage.
  • Provide exceptional patient-centered care, maintaining a professional and respectful demeanor at all times.
  • Communicate with pharmacies, providers, and patients regarding prescriptions, refills, and medication education.
  • Ensure adherence to HIPAA policies by maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Assist patients and families in understanding discharge instructions, referrals, and follow-up care plans.
  • Respond to incoming and outgoing calls, ensuring timely assistance for patient needs.
  • Participate in staff training, in-services, and continuing education to maintain competency.
  • Maintain compliance with infection control protocols and designated isolation procedures.
  • Support emergency response efforts, including basic life support and first aid as required.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned within the scope of responsibilities.
