About The Position

This position is responsible for patient care under the direct supervision of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner, and for maintaining all applicable KHI Policies and Procedures. The Medical Assistant will escort patients to exam rooms, prepare them for exams by taking vital signs, recording history, and noting the reason for their visit. Responsibilities also include cross-training in data entry, balancing accounts, fee collection, and appointment scheduling. The role involves facilitating communication between patients, families, and clinical staff, reporting to Public Health as directed by a provider, and maintaining the work area including exam rooms, supplies, medications, and immunizations. Additionally, the Medical Assistant will perform CLIA waived lab tests, obtain specimens, perform proficiency testing, run controls for waived tests, and may perform venipuncture. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or Equivalent.
  • Must meet one of the following criteria for medical assistant training/experience:
  • Attended an approved medical assistant training program, with diploma/transcripts on file from an accredited program (CAAHEP or ABHES).
  • Attended an unapproved training program and passed a medical assistant examination from a certifying organization accredited by NCCA or ANSI, with certification on file.
  • Directly supervised by the same physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours prior to February 2000 (letter required).
  • Completed a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States (certificate on file).
  • Completed an unapproved medical assistant training program and was employed as a medical assistant prior to February 2000.
  • BLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Able to communicate effectively with others.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and tasks.
  • Able to maintain attention to detail.
  • Able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol.
  • Knowledge of/able to implement direct care, newborn through geriatric.
  • Knowledge of/able to use basic medical terminology.

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years’ experience as a medical assistant in a clinical outpatient setting.

Responsibilities
