About The Position

This is a full-time Medical Assistant position with IRMC Physician Group - Urology. The role involves both clinical and clerical duties to support patient care and office operations.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program preferred.
  • At least one year of experience preferred in performing front and back office activities in a medical environment.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Moderate medical knowledge of front and back office procedures and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and instruments used in a medical office.
  • Knowledge of routine clinical laboratory methods.
  • Knowledge of universal blood and body fluid precautions.
  • Knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of established protocol for storing poisons, narcotics, acids, caustics, and flammable items.
  • Knowledge of restrictions imposed by various managed care carriers.
  • Knowledge of various forms inherent to the profession.
  • Fundamental knowledge of billing procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff members, office providers, and management.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and escort them to examination/procedure rooms.
  • Take and accurately transcribe vital signs, weight, height, and pain scale.
  • Ensure accurate completion of patient intake forms, health questionnaires, medical history, and medication reconciliation.
  • Assist in office procedures within the scope of practice, including staple removal, dressings, IUD insertion/removal, catheter insertion/removal, CLIA waived testing, EKG, blood draw, vaccine/injection administration, casting, medication administration, and nebulizer treatments.
  • Provide patient instructions and education.
  • Obtain, review, and scan signed consent forms.
  • Set up procedure trays and maintain a sterile field.
  • Notify physician when patients are ready for examination.
  • Maintain and re-stock clinical supplies for the back office.
  • Maintain inventory log of in-office medications and perform monthly checks for expiration dates.
  • Perform daily checks of refrigerator temperature and maintain logs.
  • Perform monthly checks of emergency medication kits, eye wash stations, oxygen tanks, and AEDs.
  • Ensure rooms are cleaned and sanitized after each patient.
  • Ensure office instruments are cleaned and sanitized per sterilization policies.
  • Manage orders tracking to ensure patient testing is completed.
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA guidelines.
  • Complete chart review and preparation for the next day's appointments, checking and obtaining results prior to patient arrival.
  • Review patient charts to ensure quality measures have been met.
  • Ensure charges are dropped daily for each patient encounter, including ancillary charges.
  • Travel to other IRMC Physician Group offices to cover clinical/clerical duties when needed.
  • Perform other services deemed reasonable by the physician or practice manager.
  • Greet and register incoming patients and visitors.
  • Retrieve, review, and process patient registration forms.
  • Collect, scan, and update personal and financial information.
  • Run insurance verification/eligibility on every patient and work eligibility alerts.
  • Collect payments from patients and provide receipts.
  • Retrieve messages from answering service/voicemail throughout the workday.
  • Answer telephone and direct calls to the appropriate party.
  • Work Cerner message center pools and complete messages.
  • Schedule patient appointments according to provider protocol.
  • Maintain copays, petty cash logs, and receipts.
  • Forward medical record requests to HIM.
  • Monitor patient reminder system daily for cancellations, reschedules, and no-shows, and follow up as appropriate.
  • Follow HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Security rules.
  • Accept and sign for mail parcels and deliveries.
  • Practice sterile techniques and universal precautions when accepting specimens.
  • Provide lead or manager with a list of clerical supplies.
  • Maintain an orderly, neat, and clean front desk area and waiting room.
  • Retrieve faxes from the fax machine.
  • Obtain prior authorizations as required by patient insurance policy.
  • Travel to other IPG offices to cover front office duties when needed.
  • Perform other tasks as requested.
