The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physician, PA or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care and procedures. This role involves preparing and cleaning examination rooms, maintaining efficient patient flow, and ensuring proper preparation for patient visits by gathering pertinent information. The MA will communicate and provide care consistent with the age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of the patient. Responsibilities also include answering the telephone, directing calls, taking messages, and accurately scheduling appointments. The MA will consistently stock examination rooms, assist in ordering and maintaining supplies, and reconcile encounters daily. They will effectively communicate problems and issues to their supervisor and perform within their scope of practice. Key clinical duties include obtaining vital signs, reviewing and updating medication lists, documenting allergies, entering orders, and scheduling appointments in the EHR and Practice Management System. The MA will also provide referrals, adhere to safety precautions for medication administration and waste disposal, and maintain proficiency with department-specific equipment. This role may facilitate transitions of care to UCC/Hospital and requires flexibility with work schedules. Additional duties may be assigned, and the MA is expected to perform necessary tasks even if not directly assigned. Scribing services are also a part of this role.
