About The Position

Janus of Santa Cruz is seeking a skilled, compassionate, and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to support our Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment programs. This role provides both clinical and administrative support to ensure high-quality, client-centered care in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting medical providers, enhancing client experience, and advancing Janus’s mission to promote wellness and recovery through integrated, evidence-based care. This is a swing position with hours of Tuesday to Saturday, 2:45pm-11:15pm.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and clinical workflows
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EHR/EMR) systems
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in substance use disorder, behavioral health, or community health settings
  • Familiarity with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document patient medical histories, vital signs, and presenting concerns
  • Assist medical providers during examinations and procedures
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by licensed medical staff
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and specimen collection
  • Ensure proper infection control and adherence to universal precautions
  • Greet, check in, and support clients in a respectful, trauma-informed manner
  • Schedule appointments, referrals, and follow-up visits
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical records in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Coordinate communication between clients, providers, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable federal, state, and county regulations
  • Follow organizational policies, procedures, and accreditation standards
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and audits as needed
  • Provide culturally responsive, client-centered care
  • Support clients and families with professionalism, empathy, and respect
