The Medical Assistant is the first contact for patient care. Responsible for administrative responsibilities in addition to patient care. The Medical Assistant performs advanced administrative, operational, customer support responsibilities that require independent initiative and judgment. The Medical Assistant performs clinical responsibilities. These responsibilities include discussing symptoms, obtaining vital signs, and medication/vaccine administration. They also perform phlebotomy, collect specimens, and perform diagnostic screening tests. Additionally, they sterilize and clean equipment, maintain examination rooms, and document information into the electronic medical records system. Collaborate with Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers. Deliver direct patient care dependent on what active certification allows. Decisions typically focus on methods and tactics for completing administrative tasks/projects. Prioritizing requests and interpreting procedures, processes, and techniques. Works under limited guidance due to previous experience, breadth, and depth of knowledge of administrative processes and organizational knowledge. The Medical Assistant has advanced skills, contributes to process improvement, delivers in-depth training, and provides advanced guidance/mentoring to other Medical Assistants.
