The Medical Assistant will adhere to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, follow all policies and procedures, and maintain training and competency based on the area of specialty when providing patient care. This role involves performing rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.). The Medical Assistant will assist providers with or perform procedures as ordered, and handle lab-related duties including venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking. They will also perform Point of Care testing (POCT) per standing order/provider order and complete Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards. Medication and vaccine administration will be performed safely following the rights of medication administration. Additional duties may include medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals. The role requires demonstrating effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation. Maintaining a clean work environment, ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately, and ensuring equipment and supplies are in working order and areas are appropriately stocked are also key responsibilities. The Medical Assistant may assist with training and onboarding of other teammates and may serve as a role champion or on a committee. The position requires the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, including understanding the principles of growth and development over the life span and assessing data reflective of the patient's status to identify age-specific needs.
