Provides direct patient care and clinical support within the scope of practice for a Medical Assistant (MA), assisting providers and the healthcare team in delivering efficient, compassionate care. Supports smooth clinic workflow through patient rooming, vital signs, clinical procedures, and coordination of patient visits while maintaining professionalism, accuracy, and excellent communication skills. Works collaboratively with providers, staff, and other departments to ensure high-quality patient care consistent with Grand River Hospital District policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, proofreading, and problem-solving skills while handling multiple tasks and interruptions in a fast-paced environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
  • Must obtain and maintain an American Heart Association approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within three (3) months of hire.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, compassion, reliability, and the ability to work successfully as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care duties including rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, administering injections, ear lavage, blood draws, and basic laboratory testing within MA scope of practice.
  • Assists with pre-visit preparation, patient flow, provider procedures, post-visit duties, and front-office support as needed.
  • Assists providers with exams, procedures, wound care, dressing changes, suture removal, specimen collection, EKGs, injections, immunizations, ear lavage, blood draws, point-of-care testing, and other clinical procedures within MA scope of practice.
  • Utilizes clinic practice management systems, electronic health records, and office equipment including multi-line phones, copiers, fax machines, and computer applications such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Prepares and sanitizes exam and procedure rooms, stocks clinical supplies, sterilizes instruments, and follows infection prevention and safety protocols.
  • Maintains accuracy in processing detailed information and develops positive working relationships with patients, providers, and staff members.
  • Achieves proficiency within six (6) months of hire in QHN, Pyxis, Meditech, Kase, and HealthStream systems.
  • Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.
