The Medical Assistant is the first contact for patient care. Responsible for administrative responsibilities in addition to patient care. The Medical Assistant performs advanced administrative, operational, customer support responsibilities that require independent initiative and judgment. The Medical Assistant performs clinical tasks such as discussing symptoms and obtaining vital signs. The Medical Assistant also administers medication and vaccines, performs phlebotomy, and collects specimens. Additionally, the Medical Assistant performs diagnostic screening tests, sterilizes and cleans equipment, and maintains examination rooms. Finally, the Medical Assistant documents information into the electronic medical records system. Collaborate with Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers. Deliver direct patient care dependent on what active certification allows. Decisions typically focus on methods and processes for completing administrative tasks/projects. Exercise interpretation and adaptation of procedures, processes, and techniques. The Medical Assistant has advanced skills, contributes to process improvement, delivers in-depth education/training, and provides advanced guidance/mentoring to other Medical Assistants.
