The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physician, PA or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care and procedures. This role involves preparing and cleaning examination rooms, maintaining efficient patient flow, ensuring proper preparation for patient visits, and communicating and providing care consistent with the age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of the patient. The MA will also handle telephone communication, schedule appointments, stock examination rooms, assist in ordering and maintaining supplies, and reconcile encounters daily. They are expected to communicate problems and concerns to their supervisor promptly, understand and perform within their scope of practice, and obtain vital signs accurately. The role includes reviewing and updating medication lists and allergies in the EHR, entering orders, scheduling appointments, and providing referrals. Adherence to universal safety precautions, proficiency with department-specific equipment, and facilitating transitions of care are also key responsibilities. The MA must demonstrate flexibility with work schedules and perform other duties as assigned, including recognizing and performing tasks not directly assigned. Scribing services are also part of the role.
