About The Position

At Elliot General Surgery, we specialize in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of various conditions, including diverticulitis, appendicitis, gallbladder disease, hernias, heartburn (GERD), and hemorrhoids. Our board-certified general surgeon is proficient in both traditional open surgery and robotic/minimally invasive procedures. This position assists providers in patient care within assigned clinical areas, supporting examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatments, and dressing changes. The role also involves general administrative duties in compliance with JCAHO, CLIA, NCQA, government standards, and company policies.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • MA I: Graduate from an accredited MA Program OR Graduate from an MA Training Program with externship OR 1 year of relevant healthcare experience with formal training (LNA, EMT, Combat Medic) OR 1 year prior experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • MA I: 1 year of relevant healthcare experience (can include externship).
  • MA I: 1-2 years experience in a clinical ambulatory care setting preferred.
  • MA II: Graduate from an accredited MA Program OR Graduate from an MA Training Program with externship.
  • MA II: At least 3 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • MA II: 1 year of relevant healthcare experience (can include externship).
  • MA II: 1-2 years experience in a clinical ambulatory care setting preferred.
  • Must possess BLS authorization within 90 days of employment and maintain during employment.

Nice To Haves

  • CMA, RMA or CCMA preferred for MA I.
  • CMA, RMA or CCMA required for MA II.

Responsibilities

  • Perform visit chart preparation activities based on daily scheduled appointments, ensuring diagnostic test results, emergency/urgent care reports, discharge summaries, and consult/PCP reports are in the medical record and accessible to the provider.
  • Conduct rooming activities for provider visits according to documented criteria, including chief complaint, allergies, vital signs, medication list review, tobacco history, LMP, health maintenance overrides, and timely, accurate documentation.
  • Obtain and document age and/or condition-specific measurements accurately, such as vital signs, height, weight, head circumference, peak flow, and pulse oximetry.
  • Conduct and document hearing, vision, respiratory, and ECG testing.
  • Perform and document specific screenings based on condition/need, including depression and asthma.
  • Obtain, document, and process specimens using the appropriate collection process and equipment.
  • Perform and document point-of-care testing accurately.
  • Perform venipuncture procedures (as needed) and process specimens according to policies and procedures.
  • Administer medications and immunizations via oral, nasal, injectable, rectal, and topical routes as appropriate.
  • Process medication prescription refills per guidelines using telephonic, electronic, or print methods.
  • Handle prior authorization processes for medications and/or procedures and document appropriately.
  • Manage clinical supplies and medication sample areas to ensure stock is current, stored appropriately, labeled, and par levels are maintained.
