The Medical Assistant builds relationships with patients through responsive, clear, and effective communication. The day-to-day role involves obtaining patient records and test results, coordinating daily administrative tasks, performing patient work up, preparing treatment rooms for examinations, and supporting practitioners. This position requires verifying patient information, recording medical history, confirming visit purposes, and preparing patients for examinations by performing preliminary physical tests like taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature. The Medical Assistant is also responsible for securing patient information, maintaining confidentiality, completing diagnostic and procedure coding, and providing overall support for providers and clinic operations. They will instruct patients on sample collection, administer injections and prescribed medications, observe and report changes in patient conditions, ensure accurate and timely chart entries in the electronic medical record, assist with scheduling tests and treatments, and arrange referrals. Additionally, the role involves preparing exam and treatment rooms, assisting with lab testing and phlebotomy, and supporting providers during minor procedures and physicals. The Medical Assistant is expected to maintain a safe work environment, manage supplies, ensure equipment operation, and adhere to professional standards and regulations.
