Medical Assistant
About The Position
The Medical Assistant assists physicians as they assess, examine and treat patients. This role involves patient flow management, performing various diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, phlebotomy, injections, and taking vital signs. The Medical Assistant acts as a liaison to physicians to ensure patient satisfaction, maintains and orders supplies, and interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. They escort patients to exam rooms, ensure proper identification, and document vital signs, clinical care quality measures, and medical history. Proficiency in information technology systems within the established scope of practice is required. The Medical Assistant assists physicians with examinations and diagnostic procedures, and may perform EKGs and venipuncture/injections, adhering to HIPAA privacy and security requirements. They are also responsible for ordering clinical supplies to maintain inventory and ensure smooth office operations.
Requirements
- HS Diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- BLS through the America Red Cross may be acceptable at some Pennsylvania practice locations.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Familiarity with medical office procedures.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in physician office or other healthcare setting preferred.
- For NJ Only : Graduate of an accredited post-secondary medical assisting education program which includes, at a minimum, 330 hours of instruction and encompasses training in the administration of intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
- For internal Einstein applicants only : Medical Assistant certification is not required if a current Einstein employee in a current Medical Assistant role with a hire date prior to 7/1/2024 when transferring within Einstein entities.
Responsibilities

- Performs and documents vital signs, clinical care quality measures and medical history information.
- Remains proficient and knowledgeable regarding the use and documentation requirements within information technology systems within established scope of practice.
- Assists physicians with examinations, various diagnostic procedures, and may perform EKG and venipuncture/injections in the office, using appropriate skills to provide quality care to the patients.
- Adheres to HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
- Orders clinical supplies to maintain inventory and to facilitate smooth operations of the office.
