About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for gathering patient information, screening patients, communicating with patients and providers, and performing delegated tasks within their scope of practice under the supervision of a provider, registered nurse, or licensed practical nurse. The MA role encompasses both clerical and direct patient care duties. Clerical tasks include greeting patients, managing phone calls, scheduling appointments, and maintaining electronic medical records (EMR). Clinical duties involve preparing patients for examinations, taking medical histories, recording vital signs, preparing exam rooms for procedures, explaining procedures to patients, facilitating patient flow, and assisting physicians, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants during examinations.

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant
  • High School Diploma - OR - GED - OR - Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program
  • Completes and maintains all competencies and trainings as required for role.
  • BLS Certification
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification awarded through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Association of Healthcare Professionals (NAHP) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).
  • Computer Skills to include use and navigation
  • Excellent Communications Skills
  • Excellent Interpersonal Skills
  • General Clerical Skills

  • Medical Assistant Certification other than those listed requires THMG Leadership Approval.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, screen, communicate, and act based on delegation from a provider, registered nurse or Licensed Practical nurse as per scope of practice.
  • Perform clerical responsibilities including greeting patients, answering telephones, scheduling appointments, and updating patients electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Perform clinical responsibilities including rooming patients, taking medical histories, performing and recording vital signs, preparing exam room for procedures, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, facilitation of patient flow through the office, and assisting the Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant during examinations.
