The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physicians, PA, or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care, and procedures. This role involves preparing examination rooms, maintaining patient flow, ensuring proper preparation and information for patient visits, and communicating and providing care consistent with the age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of the patient. The MA will also handle administrative tasks such as answering the telephone, scheduling appointments, stocking examination rooms, ordering and maintaining supplies, and reconciling encounters. They are expected to communicate effectively with supervisors, understand and perform within their scope of practice, and maintain proficiency with department-specific equipment. Additionally, the role includes obtaining vital signs, updating medication lists and allergies in the EHR, using the EHR and PMS for orders and appointments, providing referrals, adhering to safety precautions, and facilitating transitions of care. Flexibility with work schedules and performing other duties as assigned, including scribing services, are also part of the role.
