About The Position

Indiana Heart Physicians (IHP) is seeking a PRN Medical Assistant to join their team. IHP has been delivering leading cardiovascular care since 1978, offering comprehensive services through board-certified cardiologists across multidisciplinary clinics. As part of the Franciscan Health Heart Center, IHP provides nationally recognized, patient-centered cardiovascular excellence. The Medical Assistant will provide a personal approach to direct patient care in outpatient settings, including rooming patients, taking vitals, obtaining medical history, documenting care in an electronic medical record, administering vaccines, injections, and medications, phlebotomy, point of care testing, and medication reconciliation under the supervision of an RN/Provider. They will also gather requirements from customers and provide information, and initiate and follow through on prior authorizations, referrals, and process sample medications, prescriptions, and refills.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Medical Assisting Program completion OR 5 years of medical assistant experience
  • Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association - within 90 days of hire
  • One of the following certifications within 6 months of hire: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Allied Health or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Registry of Medical Assistants or Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Health career Association (NHA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Performance Specialists (NPS)

Responsibilities

  • Rooming patients
  • Taking vitals
  • Obtaining a comprehensive medical history
  • Document care of patient via electronic medical record
  • Administering vaccines, injections, and medications
  • Phlebotomy
  • Point of care testing
  • Medication reconciliation under the supervision of RN/Provider
  • Gather requirements from internal and external customers and provide information via phone, electronic messaging and in person
  • Initiate and follow through on prior authorizations, referrals, and process sample medications, prescriptions, and refills as directed
