About The Position

This role is part of the Pediatrics team, which is a collaborative, patient-centered group passionate about providing exceptional care to families. The team works closely together, with providers and support staff ensuring seamless, compassionate care. The Medical Assistant, Non-Certified (MA) or CMA functions within pre-defined scope of practice guidelines per state location. The Medical Assistant - Apprentice works under the direction of a Medical Assistant mentor for on-the-job training to provide basic clinical, clerical, and technical support to assist providers in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety. The MA or CMA collects subjective and objective health status data from the patient or caregiver and communicates this data to the health care provider. Participates in the care of patients by providing contributing data to licensed health care professionals and following through on the patient's plan of care under the direction of the provider. Communicates the provider's written instructions for care to the patient or caregiver. Will participate in care for patients across the lifespan in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, treatment, and follow-up. Performs a variety of duties under the direct supervision of a person licensed to practice medicine, including obtaining vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, observing and reporting patient's signs or symptoms, and performing point of care testing. The Medical Assistant Apprentice focuses on developing clinical and administrative proficiency through mentorship and active learning, including preparing exam rooms, readying instruments, assisting providers with procedures, accurate documentation, processing orders and prescriptions, facilitating professional communication, and managing administrative tasks such as scheduling and billing.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant program or successful completion of Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology and Pharmacology within 12 months of hire.
  • Two years’ experience as a Medical Assistant is required if education is not met at time of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within six months of employment.
  • Nationally certified or registered as a Medical Assistant (MA).
  • Certification (CMA) obtained through a nationally approved certification program for medical assistant, including but not limited to: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) through the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), etc.
  • Registration (RMA) obtained through the American Medical Technologists (AMT) also acceptable.
  • North Dakota (ND) registration as an MAIII through the ND Board of Nursing (if applicable).
  • If incumbent does not already hold their registration as an MAIII through the ND Board of Nursing at time of hire they will be granted 4 months to obtain registration.
  • All medication administration performed by the incumbent prior to obtaining the MAIII must be supervised by a licensed nurse.
  • Additionally, must also be registered on the ND Board of Nursing UAP Registry if they do not possess MAIII registration at time of hire (if applicable).
  • MAs working within Minnesota (MN), Iowa (IA), South Dakota (SD) and Oregon (OR) do not require state registration.
  • Completion of a Medical Terminology course (preferred for Apprentice).
  • Graduate of a vocational technical Health Unit Coordinator Program, Medical Office Specialist, or Medical Secretary (preferred for Apprentice).

  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary Range: $19.00 - $29.50
