This role implements patient care protocols, including taking vital signs, collecting specimens, placing and reading PPD tests, and performing hearing and vision tests. The Medical Assistant must follow strict infection control guidelines, assist clinicians during patient evaluations, and perform phlebotomy. Responsibilities also include administering PPDs, processing laboratory specimens, reviewing charts for follow-up actions, and coordinating with the Scheduling Department. The Medical Assistant ensures patients understand all instructions before leaving and participates in in-service training to meet quality improvement standards. They attend supervision, conferences, and agency meetings as directed by the Clinic Flow Manager and implement recommendations from the Quality Improvement Team and Infection Control Committee. Additionally, they manage the disposal of medical and hazardous waste according to OSHA guidelines and clinic protocols, and maintain various logs including temperature, medication inventory, lab and PPD logs, and quality control logs for CLIA-waived labs. The Clinic Flow Manager may assign additional duties. The work environment is a temperature-controlled office with minimal noise, and the agency has a no-smoking policy. EMR access includes scanning, triage, PMH/Vital, orders, immunizations/PPD, and telephone encounters.
