About The Position

The Medical Assistant provides general front and back office support to professional staff in a Neurological Clinic. This role involves escorting patients, maintaining exam rooms, and handling administrative tasks. The Medical Assistant must have knowledge of medical front and back office procedures, provide quality phone service by scheduling patients or referring callers, and answer patient phone messages promptly. Maintaining accurate patient information and correct filing of charts/paperwork is essential. Under the direction of a Provider, the Medical Assistant performs various duties related to patient examination and treatment, potentially supporting a specialist. The MA takes a proactive approach, utilizing resources to best serve the patient population. This role includes receptionist duties, telephone management, scheduling, message management, and data input. The MA utilizes knowledge and skill to provide appropriate care in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, protocols, and Arizona validated competencies. Working within a team model, the MA aims to improve the patient experience, enhance communication and access to care, and support processes that increase patient satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Completion of a MA training program - Required
  • High School Diploma or GED - Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) BLS - Required
  • Completion of an approved training program OR completion of an unapproved training program and successfully passes the medical assistant examination administered by a certifying organization accredited by either the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute as described by the Arizona Administrative Code (Chapter 16 – Arizona Medical Board - R4-16-401 and R4-16-101) OR completes a United States Armed Forces medical services training program - Required
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card - State: Have a current Fingerprint Clearance card, or within seven (7) working days after employment shall apply and be eligible for a Fingerprint Clearance Card (Pediatric Behavioral Health Sites ONLY) - Required

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months experience as a Medical Assistant - Preferred
  • Medical Assistant Certification (e.g., CMA, CCMA, RMA) HonorHealth will reimburse the cost of the successful completion of the certification exam. If you do not receive your certification within the assigned period, you will no longer meet the minimum qualification of the position and will be terminated - Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
  • Escorts the patient to the examining room, obtains a brief history, documents chief complaint, and takes vital signs to include weight and temperature.
  • Preps the patient for exam, assists the physician/clinician on exams and any special procedures.
  • May travel to off-site locations to perform diagnostic testing and assist in physical exam components, TB testing, injections, phlebotomy, and others.
  • May administer and record injections and TB testing under the supervision and order of the physician.
  • Performs venipuncture and obtains specimens, performs CLIA waived lab tests.
  • Performs office procedures including, but not limited to, PFT, UDS, EBT, EKG, fit testing, within the scope of practice as directed by provider.
  • Receives telephone calls from patients, pharmacy, and others; documents and relays information to provider for action.
  • Phones pharmacy with approved medication orders/refills.
  • Performs a variety of front office duties as needed, including reception, telephone, chart maintenance, insurance forms, and scheduling.
  • Organizes and communicates with insurance companies for authorizations for therapies, testing, and specialist referrals.
  • Provides appropriate referrals to case management for employees.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
