About The Position

HSC Health Pediatrics is seeking a compassionate Medical Assistant to join our dynamic team of healthcare providers at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. This role requires a candidate with strong organizational skills, a diverse set of interests and skill set, and strong interpersonal communication abilities. Candidate must exhibit compassion, understanding, the ability to work well in teams, and the ability to function in a fast paced environment is critical for this position. This position supports a busy Pediatric clinic that is open Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm daily. We currently have 9 providers with 2 more expected to be hired on in the near future. We have 5 Medical Assistants, 1 Social Worker and 1 Nurse who handles triage. This group is very close and has great communication between staff and providers. We are a teaching unit and have students that rotate in and work with the providers throughout the year. We work with families to ensure all needs of the patient and family are met. Our goal is for them to have the best patient experience they could possibly have and want to continue to come to our clinic for all their healthcare needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Six (6) months of customer service experience
  • Maintains and enhances clinical skills and knowledge on a regular basis.
  • Keeps up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise.
  • Seeks opportunities to accept ideas and help from coworkers to accomplish work goals.
  • Ability to ensure a smooth transition of important patient care information from one caregiver or department to another.
  • Willingness to share credit.
  • Ability to appreciate differences in personalities and shows empathy.
  • Consistently produces thorough and timely work with an attention to detail.
  • Ability to ask questions to accurately document information and update records.
  • Shows concern for every aspect of the job and ensures excellent communication and follow-up.
  • Understands and respects the need for structured guidelines and protocols, willing to ask for clarification if something doesn't make sense and could cause harm to a patient or result in less than an excellent level of care.
  • Demonstrates compliance with required standards.

  • Medical Assistant Certification
  • CPR (BLS) certification

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Three (3) years related experience in ambulatory care
  • NextGen experience
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Responsibilities

  • Measure patient vital signs as standard of care.
  • Perform procedures, injections, and administer vaccines as ordered by the provider.
  • All care documented in the electronic health record.
  • Optimize patient scheduling by managing patient flow and providing access to care following standard Department workflows.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and properly dispose of contaminated or expired medical supplies.
  • Perform and process routine laboratory tests and sample analyses as ordered by provider.
  • Thoroughly complete provider orders, referrals, and insurance authorizations to ensure timely delivery of care and provide patient with educational material.
  • Deliver competent care that respects each patient.
