About The Position

The Medical Assistant supports the delivery of urological services and functions as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team. This role performs routine administrative and clinical tasks to ensure the smooth operation of medical offices. The Medical Assistant collaborates with staff within their practice and other professional disciplines to achieve efficient patient care delivery and desired patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience (based on State regulation requirements).
  • Ability to perform well in stressful situations.
  • Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR, Practice Management Solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Skill in using computer programs and applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Delivers exceptional patient service throughout all interactions.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification or Registration preferred.
  • 6 months experience working within a physician’s office desired.
  • Urology experience desired.
  • Project Management.
  • Vendor relations (for those MAs that are required to order office and clinical supplies).
  • Database management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various administrative and clinical duties under the direction of the assigned direct supervisor.
  • Confer with physicians, nursing, and other staff members to coordinate and schedule patient appointments.
  • Greet and prepare patients.
  • Measure and record vital signs.
  • Record patient interview, history, and chief complaint.
  • Provide patient education regarding medications, disease management, home treatments, and special diets.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine screening tests.
  • Assist physicians with exams.
  • Perform phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens.
  • Perform basic lab tests.
  • Perform EKGs.
  • Assist with X-ray and physician therapy procedures.
  • Prepare and administer medications with physician authorization.
  • Perform basic first aid procedures such as changing dressings, applying bandages, and removing sutures.
  • Use CPR skills when necessary.
  • Prepare accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
  • Open office in the morning and close in the afternoon.
  • Assist in maintaining patient logs for lab requests, CT scans, and other treatment orders.
  • Maintain prescription ledger when needed.
  • Ensure the back office has good flow, keeps rooms full, and assists with room turnover.
  • Perform new patient work-up including X-rays, vitals, and explanation of new patient packets.
  • Add medical history for all new patients and update established patients' history accurately.
  • Perform accurate and complete room set-up for the physician.
  • Ensure all patients' medications are updated before physician visits.
  • Handle set-up for in-office surgical procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate consent forms are completed correctly, avoiding excessive medical abbreviations.
  • Scribe as assigned per physician office flow.
  • Prepare for seeing patients the following day, including patient confirmation.
  • Complete patient medical record requests when necessary.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Ensure proper hand-off of responsibilities once tasks are completed.
  • Meet established attendance criteria and start work promptly.
  • Be punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts.
  • Respect and acknowledge the organization's commitment to cultural diversity.
  • Consistently demonstrate good use of time and resources.
  • Adhere to HR and Corporate policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all medical records are accurate and complete for all patients.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, medical laws, and high ethical standards.
  • Regularly adhere to and support compliance and accreditation efforts, including OSHA, HIPAA, and CMS guidelines.
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned.
