About The Position

UPMC Passavant is hiring an experienced Medical Assistant to support our Colorectal Surgery Department at the McCandless location. This is a patient-facing role in a fast-paced specialty environment, ideal for MAs who enjoy working both independently and as part of a large care team. This role offers weekdays only, Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM-4:00 PM, with 40 hours per week. There are no weekends, holidays, overnights, or on-call duties. It is a specialty practice with meaningful patient interactions, an opportunity to work at the top of your MA skill set, and career growth within UPMC’s Medical Assistant ladder.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • 3–5 years of Medical Assistant experience
  • Experience with high‑level disinfection of scopes
  • Prior Epic Care experience

Responsibilities

  • Manage patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations and maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
  • Obtain and process lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Complete necessary forms and schedule appointments.
  • Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Prepare and manage patient charts.
  • Perform front office tasks as needed.
  • Prepare and clean patient rooms and equipment according to protocols.
  • Maintain inventory and restock supplies.
  • Organize patient flow and assist patients with various needs.
  • Collect patient information, take vitals, and perform screenings.
  • Relay instructions to patients and families.
  • Answer calls and provide patient education.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and document patient information.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health) along with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
  • Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
