About The Position

Brigham and Women’s Harbor Medical Associates in South Weymouth is located at 541 Main Street, South Weymouth, 02190. This location has multiple specialties including Cardiology, Diagnostic Radiology, Endocrinology, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Pathology, Pulmonology, and Sleep Medicine. We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Medical Assistant to support our Pulmonary Suite onsite Monday through Friday onsite from 8:30am-5:00pm. Our Medical Assistants play an integral part in the operations of our community-based physician practices. Dedicated to clinical support, the Medical Assistant ensures a smooth patient flow within the practice and assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of physician or advanced practitioner. Our Medical Assistants are trained to work autonomously to the top of their education/certification while also functioning as part of the multidisciplinary care team. We do our best to keep all employees in their assigned departments; however, you may also be asked to float to other South Shore departments during orientation (for training/precepting purposes) or during times of staffing shortages/other extenuating circumstances (for cross-coverage purposes). The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens.
Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
Managing one's own time and the time of others.

Nice To Haves

Basic Life Support [BLS Certification]
Certified Medical Assistant
Direct MA experience or medical field work 0-1 year
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities

Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
