About The Position

Beloit Health System is adding a Medical Assistant to our team our Cancer Care Center in Beloit, WI. This role is benefits eligible and works 40 hours per week on a 1st schedule from 8a-5p. The Medical Assistant will assist the licensed health care professional in performing a variety of tasks, including rooming patients, monitoring patient flow, returning phone messages, obtaining patient histories and vital signs, administering medications, assisting with diagnostic procedures and/or treatments, maintaining the patient's medical record, stocking rooms, and assisting with medical emergencies. The Medical Assistant can operate other equipment to administer routine diagnostics tests, such as electrocardiograph (EKG), and may perform routine laboratory tests. The Medical Assistant will schedule appointments or other diagnostic procedures, facilitate consults, and contact other medical facilities.

Requirements

  • Certified or Registered as Medical Assistant at time of employment.
  • Must be CPR certified within 3 months of hire.
  • Requires working sometimes irregular hours.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication and counseling skills.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize multiple demands.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years clinical experience desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patient documentation and medical record in preparation for appointment.
  • Escort patient to room, obtain vitals and update medical record, which would include a brief medical history or chief complaint, current medication, allergies, smoking status, pain status, immunization status, and all meaningful use data collection.
  • Prepare patient for examination or procedure.
  • Ensure consent is signed and dated for procedures, and performs "Time out" with provider when appropriate.
  • Assist provider with examinations and/or procedures.
  • Administer medications ordered by provider and update medical record after administering medication.
  • Assist with triaging calls under the supervision of a licensed health care professional.
  • Assist provider with educating the patient and families.
  • Demonstrate effectiveness and courtesy in scheduling patients for appointments.
  • Ensure patient safety while handling, transporting and providing medications to patients; protect patients from various hazards, falls, disease exposure, etc.
