About The Position

This posting is specifically for High School Students enrolled in a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program and covers all locations across the South Region. Applicants should only apply if they are attending an Application Session with an IU Health representative. The role involves performing duties related to direct patient care and clinical direction under the supervision of a designated supervisor and assigned physician, ensuring adherence to organizational standards. Key responsibilities include assuring the completeness of ordered procedures and treatments, maintaining smooth patient flow, conducting general lab work, instructing patients on procedures and needs, and ensuring medical orders and referrals are executed accurately and promptly. The position also encompasses registration and scheduling activities, maintaining Electronic Medical Record (EMR) files, and performing general front office functions. Computerized physician order entry may be performed if directed by an assigned physician. Additionally, the Medical Assistant is expected to precept current MA team members or MA Externs when requested by leadership.

Requirements

  • AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current certification in medical assisting from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC).
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures.
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers.
  • Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists.
  • Basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program.
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities
